Cancer: Its Cause And Treatment Without Operation

By Robert Bell, MD & Carmi B. Hazen

The time period between the Civil War and World War II was considered to be the age of medical enlightenment. Medical practitioners, prior to the formal organizing of medical practice, used herbal, dietary, hygienic and various forms of energy to aid the natural physiological processes of life in order to re-establish normal healthy metabolism. Dr. Robert Bell was one of many cancer specialists who developed unique forms of mild chemotherapy and other ingenious treatment methods that reversed the conditions of disease, primarily cancer. Dr. Bell's treatments utilized the powers inherent within the body, which has a tendency to remain healthy unless it is stressed beyond its limits due to influences of modern civilization that result in diseases unheard of in more primitive cultures. Diseases currently believed to be incurable were resolved routinely utilizing gentle natural substances and modified life styles that permitted the body to shed its toxins and return to regular homeostasis (Normal, healthy condition, absent a pathology of disease).

Dr. Bell theorized that disease conditions such as cancer were due to an inability of the body to defend itself because of a compromised immune system. Logically he deduced that the life processes consist of the continuous life cycles of individual cells that exist in harmony with each other and as cells age and die, they are replaced by copies of their ancestors; furthermore, if errors in replication occur, it seemed obvious to him that this was a result of a weakness of some body organ system that failed in its function to provide correct cellular nutrition, thus triggering the onset of a disease. The thyroid gland has such a tremendous influence over all of the body systems, that it appeared to him to be the most likely organ to cause diminution of metabolism and such a weakened condition would cause incomplete creation and subsequent combustion of cellular fuels (called ATP), leaving residues that the body could not adequately dispose of. Cancer then follows as the body builds tumors around these fermenting toxic substances as a protection mechanism to prevent the contamination of the entire entity. By raising the metabolic activity, these residues are then consumed and thus eliminated by the body, and then the disease conditions resolve themselves. Tumors having broken down and dissolved via digestive enzymes, their component proteins thereby are re-absorbed and then burned as a source of metabolic fuel.

According to Dr. Bell's historic research: "A little over nineteen years ago a most painful, and what I consider a preventable death from cancer led me to determine that I would devote as much time as I could possibly command to the study of this terrible disease. Since then it has been my chief aim to endeavor to elucidate the pathogenesis, the pathology, and the treatment of cancer from the medical, as opposed to the surgical, point of view, and I have endeavored to embody the results of my experience in this volume. Having always looked upon cancer as a preventable disease, and one entirely incident upon civilization, I naturally come to the conclusion that it must have had its origin in some flagrant contravention of hygienic laws. There is nothing unreasonable in the hypothesis that life is really due to a succession of fermentative changes constantly taking place within the cells of the living body, and that these changes, for good or evil, are under the control of certain functional processes continually going on within certain organs. This argument led me to infer that as the thyroid gland possessed a powerful influence upon the metabolism of epithelial cells, the development of cancer might be due to inefficiency of this gland. It was this hypothesis which led me, in the first instance, to employ thyroid extract as a therapeutic agent in carcinoma, and after four years of research it was my privilege to be able to demonstrate that my conclusions were, if not altogether, at least in the main, correct."

Dr. Bell along with other early oncologists understood that the tumors formed by cancer were a localized manifestation of a systemic disease and surgical removal only made the disease return, often with a vengeance. Dr. Eli G. Jones, MD., an American oncologist of great fame, published a controversial book on the natural resolution of cancer and believed, as did Dr. Bell, that cancer was a metabolic disorder often made worse by surgical interference.

Dr. Eli G. Jones (1850-1933), in his c.1915 book
'Cancer, its Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment' states:

"While sticking to the old theory that cancer is a local disease and depending upon surgical operations to cure it, the regular profession have not cured the malady. It is about time that we should abandon the theory of the fathers and do some thinking for ourselves? The men in this country who have treated this disease successfully have treated it as a constitutional or blood disease. From my own experience of forty years in the study and medical treatment of cancer in all its forms, I am convinced that it is the local manifestation of a blood disease."

Elsewhere he states: "As long as the regular school stick to that old chestnut that cancer is a local disease they will never find a cure for cancer. Meanwhile I am curing eighty percent of my cases of cancer by treating it as the local manifestation of a constitutional disease, as I was taught to do forty-five years ago."

Regarding sarcoma: "In my own experience I have generally found cases of sarcoma rooted in the bone and caused by an injury. They always return after removal by surgical operation, and at the site of the former wound. Their growth slow at first, but afterward they enlarge with greater rapidity. They give little pain and life is not threatened by them for a long time, unless they are injured by a blow or fall, or are cut out by the surgeon."

Two conditions that are simultaneously present in cancer:

Dr. Bell noticed that cancer would develop as a result of chronic constipation combined with an injury or some form of prolonged irritation. Either state alone would not produce the disease, but when both conditions exist, cancer tumors would often form. In his treatment protocol, strict attention to personal hygiene was a primary concern. Keeping the colon clear of accumulated debris reduced the load placed upon the immune system which would, in turn, increase the body's ability to heal itself. The fundamental basis of virtually all alternative cancer treatments follows this protocol of intestinal cleanliness well-publicized in later years by Dr. Max Gerson.

Dr. Bell further stated: "Let us bear in mind that whatever acts prejudicially on the general health is a factor in the production of cancer, and it is in this way bad ventilation, constipation, excess in eating or drinking, worry, sedentary habits, and other un-hygienic conditions, act so perniciously, and react upon an organ which in other circumstances might be able by its inherent vitality to resist successfully the onset of malignant disease. Bearing this fact in mind, we must not overlook the fact that intrinsically a morbid cell possesses potentiality very much inferior to that of its healthy and physiologically active neighbor, and it is only when the latter is prostrated by one cause or another that the former is enabled to exert its pernicious potency, which almost invariably becomes aggressive. In other words, every circumstance which tends to impoverish or militate against the general health predisposes to cancer, and if a particular organ is simultaneously the seat of a lesion, or has had its physiological activity in abeyance pari passu (expand its state and its destructive capacity expands also in equal proportion), this organ will become further weakened by injury, and the super-added enfeeblement thus conveyed to it will render it prone to that kind of cell metamorphosis which results in malignant disease."

Forms of cancer:

Of the seemingly vast varieties of cancer, (there are approximately fifty-seven types) the disease is predominantly present in only two basic forms: sarcoma and carcinoma. Furthermore, of these two forms of the disease, 90% of all cancers evolve from epithelial cells (carcinoma) which are the cells that make up the surfaces of tissues and organs. The latest study on modern forms of treatment using chemo therapeutic substances shows carcinoma forms of cancer do not readily respond to chemo therapy (1). Criticism of the over-use of chemo therapeutic substances utilized routinely in the treatment of cancer has been confirmed many times over the years and this Australian study is only the most recent that draws the same conclusion.

Dr. Bell noted that tumors retain the characteristics of their origin, even when they are discovered in areas of the body that are far away from their points of first existence. Breast cancer tissue is almost always found to originate in the uterus yet sets up shop in a new location and does not evolve into tissues similar to those in the new locale. Skin cancers in the form of melanomas retain their characteristic pigmented colors making their source of origination starkly obvious.

Dr. Bell's use of hormones in the treatment of cancer has yet to be adopted by modern medicine to any appreciable degree. Yet, looking back at the history of the early oncologists, all of them utilized these powerful metabolic substances to restore normal organ function rather than resort to destructive treatment methods known to be of little use (surgery and radiation, chemo therapy had yet to be discovered), the outcomes of which, more often than not, ended in disaster. Radiation in the forms of radium and X-rays proved to be completely useless and would only offer temporary relief while inducing far greater damage to the healthy tissues, making recovery difficult, if not totally, impossible. Yet these horrific treatments remain a main part of modern medicine that has yet to find a cure for this evil disease. Both Dr. Bell and his American counter-part, Dr. Eli G. Jones, M.D., utilized a medical rather than a surgical approach to the disease of cancer and both achieved positive and usually permanent results in the majority of the cases that they treated. One non-invasive treatment Dr. Bell perfected for breast cancer was not only very simple, but was extremely effective in the elimination most breast cancer tumors.

Dr. Bell was highly critical of diagnostic procedures employed by the majority of physicians who often misdiagnosed the disease and subsequently subjected their patients to tortuous disfiguring treatments that seldom worked and often actually induced the disease when it wasn't proven to be present prior to treatment.

This is what Dr. Bell said about surgery: "In dealing with the treatment of this disease (cancer), I would ask, as I have frequently done before, how is it possible that weakening a part to the extent that is the case, anything but serious mischief can result from the ruthless application of surgery as at present advocated - in the course of which tissues of the greatest importance are removed and the vascular supply reduced to a minimum? The pitiless mutilation can have no other result than as enormous reduction of the power of the part to resist disease, which in fact, experience places beyond all doubt. Indeed I would go farther, and have no hesitation in affirming that an actual nidus (a focal point - a location of inferior condition conducive to the development of pathogenic multiplication and expression) for disease is thereby produced which otherwise might never have existed. There is one case I have in my mind which amply demonstrates this. It was the case of a strong healthy lady who was nursing her baby, and her breast was therefore in full functional activity, when unfortunately a mastitis (inflammation of the breast) appeared with considerable induration (localized hardening of soft tissue) surrounding it. This was diagnosed as cancer, to my mind a most extraordinary opinion to give, when there had been no previous indication of such a condition, which, in the very nature of things, could hardly have developed so rapidly in an organ, which, as I have said, was in full functional activity. Notwithstanding this, without even time being taken to consult or obtain the consent of the patient's parents, the breast and axillary glands, which were, as is usually the case in mastitis, sympathetically affected and enlarged, together with the muscular structures covering the thorax, were remorselessly removed; the thorax having been denuded of every other tissue down to the ribs, which proceeding is euphemistically termed the "radical operation." The consequence was, that within a week or two, the whole of the extensive area, through which the knife had ploughed its ways, was a solid mass of scirrhus (hard tumor); and I am convinced that this is not a solitary instance where mischief of a like nature is the outcome of these unwarranted operations. This may appear to be strong language to employ, but I am doing no more than my duty in giving expression to it, being fully convinced of the futility, any more, the crime, of operative measures in such circumstances."

"This is only one of many instances of a like nature that I could recount. No wonder then that, as Dr. Bashford recently remarked, the death-rate from cancer in females above thirty-five years of age is so high, seeing that in the majority of incidences the death is due not so much to cancer as to operations which are so freely indulged in, whether the case be cancer or not. In every instance the consequent mutilation is so extensive and damaging to the vitality of the parts, that if there is the least tendency to cancer, either from prolonged constipation, errors in diet, or an unhealthy environment, which are all predisposing causes to the disease process, then, a nidus having thus been provided, the chances are that the disease, which might otherwise have remained latent, will tend to burst into activity within the weakened tissues. This possibility has evidently been overlooked by the Cancer Research Fund, and is quite in keeping with all the other futile efforts that may be placed on the credit side of the thousands of pounds that have been spent upon this colossal failure."

"In view of the above facts, I was distressed beyond measure at the extreme methods recommended by members of the surgical section of the British Medical Association at the meeting held at Sheffield in 1909. Each speaker seemed to vie with his predecessor in his advocacy of the knife as a curative agent, and various contrivances were advocated to overcome the evil results which necessarily follow upon the destruction of the anatomy of the parts; for, strange to say, all these inevitable results were evidently foreseen by those who advocated the most drastic proceedings to eradicate a disease which never yet in any single instance has been, or will ever be, cured by the knife."

"Nay, more, the surgeon, in every instance in which he advises operative measures to be resorted to in cancer, is surely not unaware that in advocating such a method of treatment he is perusing a course which, as a rule, tends to aggravate his poor patient's sufferings, shorten life, and, what is equally regrettable, reduce the chances of recovery should therapeutic measures be called into operation after the knife has failed, as it always has, and always will."

"But to return to the remarks on the diagnosis of tumors of the female breast, which was discussed very freely at this meeting, it would appear that correct diagnosis did not matter much, for it was remarked by the surgeon who opened the discussion that "of at the operation the surgeon is still in doubt between a cyst or mastitis, or carcinoma, and if the lump is in the other hemisphere, it is a good plan in the first instance to make the curved incision below and external to the lump." Then he goes on to say - "If no cyst is visible, the lump should be cut out and examined apart from the breast." Now, I ask, where is the warranty for operating in such circumstances, when, confessedly, he is plotting in the dark? What right has he to insist upon removing, or even interfering with, an innocent growth which is causing no serious inconvenience, and which if properly treated would give rise to little or no further trouble? The whole of the opening remarks in this discussion are interspersed with confessions of the difficulties of diagnosis, when in reality this expression is made the plausible excuse for future proceedings. Yet on every hand operation is insisted upon, notwithstanding the fact that, in the majority of instances the surgeon is operating without knowing what he is operating for. My conviction is, and it is strengthened by the remarks which I listened to at that meeting, that scores of mamma are removed where not the slightest suspicion of cancer exists. And I have ample evidence of this fact over and over again."

"Just one more quotation from the same speaker" ..."Considerable difficulty may arise in saying whether the indurated {hardened soft tissue} areas are due to a chronic inflammatory sclerosis of the breast tissue or to carcinoma." And then he goes on, without the slightest compunction, to advocate, that "in such a case the whole breast in the first instance be removed, after which the indurated areas should be carefully sliced, in a good light, in search of the characteristic appearances of malignant disease." And then he continues: "Fortunately a mistake in the diagnosis is not especially serious." It may not be "serious" for the surgeon, but it will be difficult to convince the patient that it is not serious for her

The Truth About Cancer - by Carmi B. Hazen

Much progress has been made and numerous discoveries have occurred since Dr. Bell wrote his spectacular work in 1913. Other equally great scientific men of medicine have improved upon and confirmed many of Dr. Bell's beliefs in relation to various treatment forms of cancer that produce positive results while mainstream medicine continues to search blindfolded in the dark for the illusive causative germ, which was proven not to exist over 100 years ago. (Re: Bernard, Virchow, Bechamp, Rosenow, Rife & Kendall) The last section of Dr. Bell's book includes my treatise on cancer and its status of the curative non-invasive remedies as is known in the Millennium.

Concurrent to Dr. Bell's activities, Dr. John Beard published his findings in 1903 with his 'Trophoblastic Thesis of Cancer' which clearly demonstrates that the material make-up of cancer tumors is identical to that of a placenta and that each are formed utilizing identical cells derived from the stem cell known as the Diploid Totipotent (2). Cancer tumors are formed from fibrogen, a component material utilized in the construction of all tissue and the viral-like organisms that form as a result of the cancer which have evolved from pleomorphic organisms that we carry with us at all times. First discovered by Claude Bernard, (1813-1878) the mycoplasma is considered the pre-cursor to DNA and performs a role of stimulating the immune system and will change its form to conform to the terrain that it is bathed in, producing the germs required to act as scavengers, placed within us by the Creator, to clean up deviations of normal stasis, an impossible task to perform while the body fluids remain contaminated. Hence, the reason why Dr. Bell emphasized the importance of correct personal hygiene.

Otto Warburg, M.D. 1883-1970

Dr. Warburg was awarded the 1931 Nobel Prize in Physiology in Medicine for his discovery of the mechanism by which healthy cells turn into malignant cells by altering their metabolism as a survival mechanism. In his 1966 speech to the Nobel Laureates, he explained how to end the scourge of cancer through diet and correct nutrition (3).

The Rife Microscope

Royal Raymond Rife (1888-1971) was by far the greatest scientific mind of the Twentieth Century and perhaps of all times. Dr. Rife developed the world's most powerful microscope technology that would allow him to see with the eye of the Cyclops into the here-to-for unseen world of the virus. Although the electron microscope appeared on the scene in 1938, it could not observe life in motion. Using a technique of heterodyning monochromatic light split through a series of prisms, Dr. Rife was able to force the tiny organisms to fluoresce by illuminating their chemical constituents thus bringing invisible organisms into view. Along with Dr. Arthur Kendall of Northwestern University, these great men of science were the first to observe the organism associated with the formation of cancer which they named BX and BY.

William Donald Kelley, D.D.S. 1925-2005

Dr. Kelley, out of personal necessity, arrested his pancreatic cancer through the use of digestive enzymes just as postulated by Dr. Bell in one of his early treatment protocols which he was using at the turn of the last century. Dr. Kelley went on to develop the enzymatic treatment methods of cancer that tens of thousands have since utilized to clear their bodies of cancer, after being told by conventional medicine that their outlook was hopeless. Dr. Kelley lived another 40 years and died of congestive heart failure. In his book 'One Answer to Cancer' (4). Dr. Kelley lays out a complete program for the metabolic treatment of cancer. Pancreatic cancer, considered fatal, can be effectively treated using diet and special pancreatic enzymes, primarily chymotripsin, to aid in the digestion of proteins and the dissolution of the fibrin coatings of cancer tumors. The result: most people who follow the program live a normal life span. Modern medicine has no counterpart treatment protocol and gives up on patients suffering from this extremely aggressive form of cancer.

Harry Hoxsey 1901-1974

Harry was the son of a farmer who inherited the family secret formula of herbal concoctions that had been effective in treating various cancers. At one time there were 17 clinics operating across the country and the main clinic in Dallas was the largest cancer facility in the world at that time. Harry was constantly being arrested for practicing medicine without a license. The prosecutor who arrested Hoxsey in excess of 100 times switched sides and became Harry's defense lawyer after Harry cured his brother of cancer.

To quote Harry Hoxsey's (1901-1974) flamboyant lawyer, James 'Trombone' Martin, "It takes nerve to set up a nice big place in a big city like Dallas and hold yourself out as being able to furnish medicines that can cure cancer. It takes real nerve to do that. I don't believe that a man that knew he was lying about it could do it." Harry had 17 clinics operating in the 33 years he fought the system and treated over 25,000 cases. No other supposed quack was arrested as many times as was Harry. In Harry's slander trial against his nemesis, Dr. Morris Fishbein, former Journal Editor of the AMA and previously a circus clown, it was admitted by the defense that Harry did cure skin cancer! Harry won the case and was awarded .05 million. He was a wealthy oilman and didn't need the money, only recognition, which he got. He died of heart failure but the coroner listed the death as prostate cancer just to take a last stab at him.

Much progress has been made since Dr. Bell correctly treated cancer 100 years ago. Today there are numerous, highly effective alternative treatments for this scourge upon mankind, and it can be managed to such a degree that few people need to die from this horrific disease condition. Modern mainstream medicine has been a dismal failure and those who partake in its destructive treatments may ultimately pay with their lives. In my CD ROM interactive web enabled book 'What They Didn't Teach Your Doctor In Medical School,' most of the best treatments and where to obtain them are meticulously outlined. Arm yourself with knowledge and you will no longer have to fear this devastating disease.

"Everyone should know that most cancer research is largely a fraud, and that the major cancer research organizations are derelict in their duties to the people who support them."
